Five Ways OnPath's Alignment Coaching Method is Better

In this post, I’ll explain why my OnPath Alignment coaching method and why it is better than most other methods in the coaching market today.

The OnPath Alignment Coaching Method is based on several core principles:

  1. An owner's personality dysfunction will become imprinted onto his/her business, but the results will often be seen as a business problem to solve rather than a personal problem the owner needs to address

  2. As an owner becomes more emotionally, mentally, and spiritually healthy, the owner's business will naturally become more profitable through better culture, higher-quality customers, and smoother processes

  3. The raw business itself naturally wants to grow. The owner is usually the greatest throttle to that growth.

Misalignment

Many Christian business owners live with inherent, systemic conflicts or misalignments in their day-to-day lives across four key areas (Figure 1). They feel torn between these areas such that no matter how hard they work in one area, the other areas are falling behind. These four areas compete for the owner's attention and allegiance. Inevitably, it is the owner's walk with God that is usually sacrificed the most in favor of the other three areas:

  • Calendar

  • Business demands

  • Marriage

  • Walk with God

Figure 1

The arrows point away from the owner because the owner is pulled simultaneously in all four directions. The owner's stress is exacerbated by the demands in each area and can often lead to feelings of inadequacy, overwhelm, exhaustion, isolation, or disappointment.

The expression of these feelings will vary widely depending on the owner's personality. But it is not uncommon to see (not an exhaustive list):

  • Outbursts of anger

  • Silent withdrawals

  • An outsized need to be right

  • Harsh perfectionism; harsh communication

  • Discounting or devaluing others

  • Giving lip service to God, but lacking any real connection with him

  • Needlessly spending money on temporary thrills

  • Internal conflicts between needing control, needing to be liked, and needing to produce results

  • Fears real intimacy

  • Lives with constant guilt and shame

  • Is often harsh and critical of his/her own performance, but does not make the needed changes

OnPath Alignment

The OnPath Alignment coaching method will bring alignment across these four areas, so that each area supports and encourages the other three rather than competing with them.

The OnPath Alignment method balances grace and truth over time to achieve a calm but lasting set of changes in the owner's personality by reconnecting the owner with God, his/her spouse and family, staff, and church (Figure 2). As a result, the owner's business becomes more profitable, and top talent will tend to stay rather than leave.

Why is the OnPath Alignment method better?

The OnPath Alignment method is better than most other methods because

  • It dares to improve the persona of the one person in the business who has the most power and control

  • It is comprehensive: this method sees the moving parts in both the personal and professional life of the owner and does not believe that they can be compartmentalized

  • It works to improve the owner's three most important relationships: God, marriage, and family

  • Its assessment method utilizes both clinical and business leadership tools that are widely known and accepted

  • Your coaching has extensive experience in theology, clinical psychology, and business leadership

The assessment method is comprehensive:

  • Hogan leadership series (three assessments)

  • Hogan judgement

  • Hogan reasoning

  • 360 review

  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3

  • Million Clinical Multi-Axial Personality-IV

Yes, part of the assessment process is a 360-degree review of the owner's personality and performance by the owner's direct reports and colleagues. Think about the value this brings to the table.

It is a remarkable business owner who will submit to this six-month process. Most will shy away because either A) they're making money and don't care to "rock the boat," B) they are scared of being assessed, or C) they don't feel enough pain to seek this kind of coaching. Mind you, others around them feel more than enough pain to recommend OnPath's Alignment coaching to the owner, but in the owner's pride and emotional numbness, the owner himself/herself will often not feel enough need to undergo this process.
