Why Marriage Coaching Matters for Christian Business Owners

Most executives will invest in a business coach without hesitation. Fewer will ever consider investing in their marriage the same way. That's a costly blind spot — because your marriage isn't separate from your leadership. It's one of the four load-bearing walls holding up the rest of your life, alongside your business, your calendar, and your walk with God. When that wall cracks, the others feel it.

I've written before about how a leader's health or dysfunction gets imprinted directly onto the company. The same is true in reverse: what's happening in your marriage doesn't stay at home. An executive who is disconnected from his spouse often shows up to work distracted, defensive, or quietly resentful — and his team feels the residue of it, even if no one can name why.

Marriage coaching gives executives something most of them have never had: a structured, honest space to address the relationship they've been managing around instead of leading well. High performers are used to solving problems with effort and hours. But a marriage doesn't respond to effort alone — it responds to alignment, presence, and honest repair, which are skills most executives were never taught.

There's a wealth of parallels worth noting here too. I've observed that financial success doesn't buy peace — it often just raises the stakes on whatever is already unresolved. The same holds for marriage. Success doesn't fix a strained relationship. Left unaddressed, it usually just gives the strain more to survive. And if the marriage doesn’t survive, financial success gives motivation to the leaning-out spouse to move forward since s/he will get a larger pot of money in the divorce settlement.

An executive who is aligned at home leads with more clarity, patience, and presence everywhere else. That's not a soft benefit — it's a performance one.
